Exciting New Political Content!
In brief, the conventions and the election and the wacky things said by politicians have inspired double-bable. Hmmm . . . hard to explain. Check it out for yourself . . .
It is a real pain to find good listings of motorcycle dealers on the Web, so we
are putting together an increasingly comprehensive list of
dealers with links to their Web sites. If you are looking for a new bike or
a great used motorcycle, check out the listing here. Naturally, the list starts
with DC area dealers, but it will become more extensive. My personal pet peeve
are Web sites that have listings but no links! What good is that?!
Check the section for some good deals for finding motorcycle
gear and accessories online.
Recent Pedestrian Deaths

As I drove to work this morning (8/21/08)Georgia Avenue, just north of the DC line at Blair Road, was closed for several blocks because of a pedestrian struck. About a week ago a on - not too far away. Georgia Avenue even has a crossing guard a couple of blocks south of the border in the mornings. I'll try to add a picture soon.
Ironically, these are just outside the DC borders. Ironic because of DC's ten year pedestrian safety plan. Hopefully, that will be more sucessful than just the silly crosswalk signs. I finally witnessed someone driving completely over one. It was in the crosswalk, with the crossing guard, as she was walking back to the sidewalk! It was one of the flexible stand signs like this one, and it made a loud "crack" like a gunshot when it hit the ground.
Summer '08 in DC
Summer has rolled in with some wonderful 90+ degree days and wild thunderstorms. It reminds me that I need to update some news and links about DC Metro. The subway has experienced incredible mishaps, power outages, track fires, derailments, and general commutuer discontent in the past few weeks. Also, summer seems a good time to continue the dismantling/remantling of DCPS.
Michelle Rhee appeared on local DC TV today (June 16) and presented some interesting anecdotes about her trips to the schools. What struck me most was how she could exprience two completely different classrooms across the hall from each other in the same school. She hammered her message about accountability again. She also spoke so highly of Adrian Fenty it was a wonder she didn't start blushing.
Some new items this month:
- The deals page has been updated.
- We continue to add new items to the teacher resources area.
Older 2008 News:
Some upcoming reviews include a comparison of mini-DV camcorders. As the move to HD camcorders increases, we are finding some great deals with the last generation of mini-DV camcorders. Also, check back soon for some DDR news including a review of the supercool RedOctane Ignition 3.0 Dance Pad.As summer approaches and Washington, DC opens its cherry blossoms to tourists and locals alike, look to see the archive of Yield to Pedestrian signs increase. Some recent signs have seen some amazing wear and tear. For the first time I saw one that was peeling in layers. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me . . . now if I could only remember where it was . . .
With the new Washington Nationals stadium almost complete, we will be posting some images of that "new" area of the city. The development is quite amazing. Southeast around the Navy Yard has undergone quite a facelift. As the Metro becomes increasingly stressed in its normal daily running, the city wonders how the Green line will handle the additonal stress of ballgame traffic.
In more education news, conflict between Michelle Rhee and Mayor Fenty and the City Council (March 15, 2008) and everyone else continues to heat up. Citizens have been complaining about the schools for decades, about a dozen superintendants have promised changes, now that something is actually happening, people complain and protest. It's odd really.
