Troubleshooting and FAQ
Quick checks for common questions about groups, layouts, files, display size, and local data.
Why does a grouping say “Check constraints
The saved Avoid rules could not all be honored while creating complete groups. Super Picker relaxed the minimum necessary exclusions and generated a result. Review the group membership and the class’s configured rules.
Why is a student missing from the new groups?
Open Attendance and check whether Present is turned off. Attendance is temporary and independent from the class roster. If the student is absent from the roster itself, add or import the student from Classes.
Why are there Overflow tables?
The chosen room layout does not have enough seating for all students in the generated groups. Existing seating fills first, then Overflow tables are placed to the right. Save a larger layout if that class regularly needs the additional seats.
Why can't I see the layout tools?
Select Show tools, then select Room, Tables, Selection, or Furniture sets. The toolbar remains fixed above the scrolling canvas.
The room changed size after resizing the window
Wait briefly after ending the resize. Tables, chairs, walls, labels, and spacing scale together after a short stability delay. Saved geometry uses device-independent coordinates and should not progressively compress when switching screens.
The text or dialog colors are difficult to read
Open Settings and try High contrast, Light, or Dark. Themes apply to menus and dialogs as well as ordinary screens. Turn on Large Text when size is the primary issue.
A CSV import found duplicates
Merge CSV keeps the existing roster and skips names identified as duplicates. Choose Replace roster only when you intend to discard the existing roster first.
A backup will not restore
Confirm that the file has the .superpicker extension and was created by Super Picker's Back up database action. A roster or feedback CSV is not a complete database backup. The app validates integrity and schema before replacing current data.
Where is my data?
Operational data lives in the application's local data container. Use Manage Data: Back up database instead of editing or copying internal files manually.
What should I include in a support report?
- The version shown in About.
- Your macOS version and Mac model.
- The screen and action immediately before the problem.
- Whether the issue repeats after reopening the app.
- A screenshot that contains fictional or obscured student data.
